Tafl: viking chess

A strategic board game with origins in medieval Scandinavia, this classic pastime was once as esteemed as chess. It offers several variations, including different board sizes (7x7, 9x9, 11x11, or 13x13) and win conditions—either moving the king to the board’s edge or corner. Defenders (white pieces) must protect the king from attackers (black pieces), who aim to trap him by surrounding him on two or four sides. Gameplay involves turn-based moves, with black moving first, and all pieces sliding vertically or horizontally without distance limits. You can play solo against AI, locally with a friend, or challenge opponents online in multiplayer mode for a competitive experience.
